Calderdale is warming up for the Olympic Flame visit and is getting ready to set the place alight with excitement!
Sunday 24 June 2012 will be a day to remember. People will not only be able to see the iconic Flame and cheer on our Torchbearers...an array of fun events are also sure to ignite inspiration in the lead up to London 2012.
Commercial Street in Brighouse will be covered with turf paid for by the Brighouse Business Initiative to create a community area for games, parties and picnics.
Children aged 6 and over can have a go at diving at Halifax Pool, where the Flame will be passing on its route.
Five 30-minute diving lessons will be available, free of charge, between 11.45am and 1.45pm. Children must have passed their ASA level 5 award or be able to swim at least 50m confidently in deep water. For more information and to book a place, please contact Halifax Pool on 01422 366624.
Fun activities will also be staged by the official Olympic Torch Relay Partners, Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung. These may be subject to change without notice.
13 inspirational Torchbearers will proudly carry the Flame through Brighouse and Halifax.
Frank Chislett, a farmer and entertainer from Halifax, is delighted to be carrying the Flame through his hometown:
"I'm still getting over the shock of being selected. It's an unbelievable honour. And to be running in Halifax town centre is marvellous".
"The Torch Relay is a great boost for Calderdale. I hope people come along to support the borough and celebrate this once in a lifetime event".
Before Frank had a heart attack four years ago, he was a self-confessed couch potato, but he has since triumphed in two marathons, raised thousands of pounds for charity and inspired many people to improve their health.
The Mayor of Calderdale, Cllr John Hardy, said:
"Seeing the Olympic Torch Relay in Calderdale is a once in a lifetime spectacle, so Calderdale Council is asking people to plan their journey in advance to make sure they have the most enjoyable experience".
